THE
NEW NEVADA MUSEUM OF ART, Donald W. Reynolds Center for the
Visual Arts, E. L. Wiegand Gallery is an environmental statement
about Nevada’s unique landscape. Since opening in May, 2003,
after a $22 million building and endowment campaign, the four level,
60,000 square-foot building has become one of the most distinguished
architectural achievements in Nevada. Designed by internationally
renowned architect Will Bruder and inspired by unique geological
formations of the Black Rock Desert, the museum incorporates Bruder’s
sculptural design style and highlights his unique sense of space,
movement, materials and light. With expanded gallery space for major
exhibitions, a multimedia theater, dining in Café Musée
and two sculpture galleries, the Nevada Museum of Art continues
to offer audiences of all ages a variety of experiences.
Over the next year, the Nevada Museum of Art’s
feature galleries will host such stellar exhibitions as Ansel Adams:
Masterworks (November 14, 2004 – January 30, 2005), Maxfield
Parrish: The Master of Make Believe (May 1 through June 26, 2005)
and In Stabiano: Exploring an Ancient Roman Resort (October 23,
2005 – January 2006).
VISITORS WILL ALSO ENJOY
the Nevada Museum of Art’s permanent collection which relates
to issues of Nevada and the West with an emphasis on the environment.
This thematic, rather than historical or stylistic focus on the
environment mirrors the community’s growing interest in the
protection of the land and includes works by Richard Misrach, Dennis
Oppenhiem, Wanda Hammerbeck, Maynard Dixon, Edward Weston, Stuart
Davis and Celeste Roberge.
Founded in 1931, the Nevada Museum of Art is the oldest
arts organization in Nevada and remains the only nationally accredited
art museum in the state. It is recognized as a leader among museums
both locally and nationally and is the recipient of the National
Award for Museum Service.
